Chapter 15: Official Welcome Ceremony
The official welcome ceremony for the Brunel International Scholarship winners was held last week, on the 10th of November 2010. Although I actually had a lecture at that time, I have to attend the ceremony because it’s one of my duties. Also, there would be a photo session, along with handout of the certificate by the Vice Chancellor of Brunel University. (Moreover, there would be free refreshments at the occasion ;-p)
On that day, 4 hours before the ceremony started, I messaged Keith, one of the scholarship winners from Hongkong, and asked about what clothes that he would wear. He answered me and said that he would wear a semi-formal dress. So, I decided that I would wear the same dress code, and voila, I arrived at the ceremony and realized most of the scholarship winners wear formal dress (with coat and tie).
Just before the ceremony started, we just had onwards networking session and chit-chat, while enjoying some of the refreshments. Keith just arrived after I had a little chit-chat with one of the scholarship winner from Iran, unfortunately I forget her name, but I remember that she is in the same course with Eko, one of my friends from Indonesia. After the official welcome statement session by the Vice Chancellor, follow by the handout of the certificate with photo session, we continue the onwards networking session.
I also met another scholarship winner from Indonesia, Stella. It feels so good to know that there is another scholarship winner from Indonesia (at least I have a ‘company’). I also met another scholarship winner from Taiwan, Adeline. Adeline is a funny girl, she told us that she was already in the ceremonial room 10 minutes before the ceremony start, but when she saw most people wore formal clothes, she felt unsure and went back to the library just to check her email again about the room of the ceremony.
Finally, just before the event closed, I met three other bloggers (so I have ‘companies’ now), Behrouz from Iran, Shriyaa from India, and Amy from USA. From now on, we are going to share our stories in Brunel and the link to our blogs will be put on the Brunel International page of the Brunel University website.
