Chapter 14: Student’s viewpoint
It’s almost a month since the day I arrived at Brunel. So far, I haven’t shared my viewpoint about my studying experience here. This viewpoint might be just a subjective viewpoint, but in some parts it might also represents the viewpoint of other international student. This viewpoint is also divided into positive and negative viewpoint.
One of the best supportive points for studying is good facilities. With good facilities, it will be easier for students to enhance their potential to the maximum point. From what I’ve experienced so far, I think Brunel has provided the best studying facilities to the student. However, I also think that it’s common for all universities in the UK to provide the best facilities to their student. Library, Computer Laboratory, Lecture Theatre, Seminar Room, Study Room, Computer Centre, Laptop Loans, Academic Skills, Self Service Printer, E-Library, U-Link; we could just mention the facilities that we require for our study, and they are available for us.
Another supportive point for studying is good lecturers. This point might be very subjective, because each student might have different opinions about their lecturer. Based on the modules that I took for this term, I feel the lecturers for each module are very competent, skilled, and supportive. They always update the materials for their lecture on the university’s e-learning website, U-Link. In some lectures, which have seminar and/or workshop, the lecturer also provides discussion areas on U-Link.
The last supportive point for studying that I’m going to mention here is good staffs. Staffs in this point are not only general staff, but also stand for personal tutor, librarian, and even the General Practitioner. So far, every staff that I’ve met here is very friendly. We could just ask about anything that we need, and if they couldn’t help us, they would recommend another staff that can assist us.
On the other hand, there are still minor negative points in this campus. Dirty restrooms, noisy study rooms, and limited Self Service Printer are some of them. It’s quite annoying, when we are in a hurry for another class and need to use the restroom quickly, but then we found out that the restroom is dirty. The possible cause of this problem might be the limited number of cleaning staff. The limited number of librarian that could control the silent study room in the library might be the cause of the noise problem in there. Last, the number of Self Service Printer (especially in the library) should be added to avoid long queue of students that sometimes still occur.

Very good blog. Informative and fun too.
I was particularly interested in your blog as I am considering doing the same course at Brunel.
Just a couple of things I’d like to clarify if you do not mind.
I gather from your blog that lectures and labs in the first term are held on Wednesday’s and Friday’s?
I would also like to know what the schedule is like for the 2nd term?
I hope you enjoy the rest of your time at Brunel.
Thanks for your comment. I believe I have answered your questions in more detail two days ago, am I right? I will write about 2nd term overview in this two weeks time, but basically, the timetable depends on the situation. My 2nd term lectures and labs are on monday, wednesday, and friday.
